On
January 3, 1993, Atlas Shippers International
was born. Joel P. Longares Sr., founder and President,
starting with one- desk space in a small office on San
Bernardino St. in Covina California, single-handedly
served his earliest customers. After a few months Joel
moved his office to a house garage in Covina, California.
In
May 1993, Marielou Cordova joined Joel P.
Longares Sr. Their combined expertise helped them go
through a lot of experiences. Joel and Marielou faced
huge challenges but it never stopped them from believing
that there is future in the door-to-door cargo delivery
industry. Year after year they learned the ins and outs
of the business. They worked hard to gain the trust
and confidence of Filipinos. From then on, Atlas slowly
made a name in the Filipino community.

As the Company grew, a group of industrious friends
joined Joel and Marielou and in February
1995, Atlas
was incorporated.
Alex Meñez, Marilou Meñez and Francis Cordova shared
the same drive and ambition as Joel and Marielou. With
the new group, the company continued to grow. It was
also in the same year that Atlas opened its branch in
the Philippines. Roger Longares, younger brother of
Joel Longares became its Vice President for Manila Operations.
With their team effort and sheer determination to succeed
they have successfully penetrated the market. Since
then Atlas has consistently progressed year after year.
In
1996,as Atlas response to the loyalty and
patronage of its customers. Atlas gave away one sack
of rice for every two boxes that they shipped. It was
Atlas' way of showing its gratitude to the Filipino
American community who believed in the company's commitment
of excellent and reliable service. To this day, this
promo remains a tradition and has become Atlas' trademark
in the industry. At the same time, Atlas launched a
ma ssive
campaign that included several advertisements in Filipino
newspapers and commercials in Filipino TV shows with
Rico J. Puno as the official endorser.
The year 2001
brought golden opportunities to the company to
venture overseas. Offices in Hongkong, Italy and Singapore
were opened to serve the Filipino community, evidence
of Atlas' commitment to worldwide expansion. In response
to the growing needs pf the migrant Filipinos in the
US, other services were likewise offered namely: Travel
and Tours Services, Airfreight and Money Remittance.
Atlas
has gone a long way from the one-man operation it started
with. Atlas is now supported by a network of agents
spread all over the United States, covering almost all
states where Filipino communities exist. It also has
several warehouses conveniently located in select cities,
where loading onto containers is centralized in each
area. Situated in safe locations, these are run by competent
and experienced supervisors. Operations are backed by
modern technology, tools and equipment to support the
demands of the physical operations. The phenomenal growth
of Atlas likewise saw the need for a bigger warehouse
in Manila. On July 26, 2001, a new warehouse in Las
Piñas was inaugurated.

It
is a huge warehouse that can accommodate 5 containers
at one time and boasts of the most efficient delivery
services in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
It is supported by a vast network of delivery systems
from trucking companies for inland deliveries to shipping
lines for inter-island deliveries.

To
date,
Atlas is considered one of the leading cargo forwarders
to the Philippines. Now serving more than 60,000 Filipinos
all over the world, Atlas is consistent in searching
for ways to continually meet the needs of our
'kababayans' in the US, Europe and other Asian countries.
